GRATITUDE:  As we leave the penultimate month of 2025, we express gratitude to God for his blessings to us at the Heights and in our various Parents’ Association branches. I thank all of you for being dedicated to the college and for supporting our college community morally, spiritually, and financially. We thank an anonymous donor for the gift of N2,000,000.00 (two million naira) to the JMC Choir.

7TH ANNUAL INTER-HOUSE SPORTS COMPETITION: We are grateful to you all for your presence and active participation during our Seventh Annual Inter-House Sports Competition which took place on November 15, 2025. We thank the Chairman of the occasion, Chief (Dr.) Ikenna Okafor, KSS and his wife, Mrs. (Dr.) Esther Okafor, for an excellent job throughout the Inter-House Sports Competition. They were among the first set of parents to arrive the venue. Along with their friends and other parents, they are contemplating on giving their support for the hostel expansions (annexes) in the college—in order to provide more opportunities to others who long to experience quality Jesuit education.

We thank the various Parents’ Association Chairpersons and Parents’ Association branches for your active participation during the sports festival. We thank you immensely for supporting us in varying aspects of this year’s Inter-House Sports Competition. May the Lord reward your generosity.

CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS: We congratulate the Inter-House Sports Champion of 2025, Gonzaga House, for their second consecutive victory. We also congratulate all other Phoenixes of Joseph House, Teresa House, and Loyola House for their graceful and gracious game spirit throughout our sports festival. We thank all the staff who guided and coached them for the competition. Our appreciation also goes to all members of the Local Organizing Committee.

ALL SAINTS DAY: Friday, November 1, 2025 was the Solemnity of All Saints Day. The Principal Fr. Alex Irechukwu, S.J. celebrated the Mass for the Phoenixes before the All Saints Variety Show, Festive Lunch, Sports, and Movie.

MONTH OF REMEMBRANCE: The month of November was devoted to praying for our beloved loved ones and our beloved 60 Angels. In the Book of Remembrance, Phoenixes and staff inscribed the names of their departed relatives, as well as the names of our 60 Angels, departed Jesuits of our Province, and departed staff.

TASTE OF LOYOLA JESUIT COLLEGE, ABUJA: Some students of the college were in our mother school—Loyola Jesuit College—for their 60 Angels Memorial Concert (Drama, Dance, Music, and Poetry). LJC students staged a drama titled The Resting Place by Adinoyi Ojo Onukaba. In honor of the 60 Angels, JMC students also dramatized a poem on “Hope Reborn,” by Chinonso Grace Onyebu (Class of 2027), on the stage of LJC. JMC students also had an experience of the culture of LJC by attending some of their classes, Masses, meals, and other activities.

BOARD MEETINGS: On November 21, 2025, the college Board of Governors met, while on November 22, 2025, the Board of Trustees met. A highlight of the meetings was deliberation on the expansion (annex) of the girls’ hostel and boys’ hostel. After site visit and client brief, Arc. Abioye Ayeni presented a design sketch of the girls’ dormitory annex and the boys’ dormitory annex to the Board members. Another highlight is the proposed staff housing, which is meant to improve staff welfare and enrich cura personalis of the Phoenixes. The Boards are expecting a report from a committee for the proposed staff housing project. Security was also a notable subject during the Board meeting.

RA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, BONNY ISLAND FAIR:

On November 22, 2025, the Director of Admission Mr. Hilary Onuh, S.J. and an ICT member of JMC Mr. Michael Oluseye represented JMC in an education fair at Bonny Island, Rivers State. The fair took place at RA International School. They conscientized Bonny Residents about the five Jesuit schools in Nigeria. Many of the residents were enthusiastic about Jesuit education for their children.

HEADS-UP—PLAN B AND PLAN C FEES: For smoother operations, we soundly recommend that parents and guardians who opted for Plan B or Plan C mode of fee payment should pay by December 2025. This will give the Bursary adequate time to generate the proof of payment as well as the clearance slip and then revert to you before the return of the Phoenixes to campus. It will also be a wise way of saving your fund as it has shown that fee payment after Christmas vacation and new year is not propitious to many families worldwide. Please remember that the resumption date is January 10, 2025.

NATION OF CONCERN: November was filled with different drama of tragic proportions in our beloved nation. With the recent abduction of children and worshipers in Nigeria, our nation has been plunged into an ocean of anxiety and pain. This is a desecration of the educational sanctuary and spiritual sanctuary of our nation. We urge all to be circumspective, proactive, and security conscious in our meanderings and pursuits. We pray for a swift freedom of all abducted Nigerians and for an end to the senseless violence and impunity on our land.

TRIBUTES AND REQIEUM FOR MRS CHIKA ANN GOZIE NNAKENYI: On November 19, 2025, there was night of tribute for the mother of Ebube Chigozie (Class of 2031—JS 1C) at LEMACO Hall and Garden, Port Harcourt. On November 22, 2025, Mrs. Chika Nnakenyi was laid to rest after a Christian service at Nnkenyi family home in Amichi, Anambra State. May God strengthen her husband Mr. Chigozie Joshua Nnakenyi, her sons Ebube and Samuel, and family members. May she rest in perfect peace.

TWENTIETH MEMORIAL OF OUR BELOVED 60 ANGELS: Wednesday, December 10, 2025 is the 20th memorial of the demise of our beloved 60 Angels and other victims who died in a plane crash on December 10, 2005. Various Parents’ Associations are planning for Masses to honor and pray for our beloved Angels.  Here at the college, the Chief celebrant of our Mass on December 10, 2025 is the Provincial of the North-West Africa Province—Very Rev. Fr. John Ghansah, S.J. The Mass will be at 9:00 A.M. and you are all welcome. Parents of the 60 Angels have been invited for the Memorial Mass. Later in the day, a drama titled Grip Am by Ola Rotimi will be staged by our students. There will also be musical performance by the Sixty Angels Symphony Orchestra (SASO) and a candlelight procession. Some students of Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja will be joining us for the memorial events. The 60 Angels Mural in the Oratory of the Angels has been completed.

DAY OF RECOLLECTION FOR PORT HARCOURT PARENTS: On Saturday, November 29, 2025, Port Harcourt parents streamed in droves into St. Ignatius the Pilgrim Chapel of Jesuit Memorial College Jesuit Community for a day of recollection. The recollection was directed by Fr. Chikere Ugwuanyi, S.J., the Principal of Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja and the new Coordinator of Jesuit Association of Secondary and Basic Education of Africa and Madagascar (JASBEAM). The theme of the recollection was Constellations of HOPE: Parenting with some Ignatian Insights.

CHRIST THE KING SOLEMNITY: We ended the last Sunday of the Liturgical Year with the celebration of the Solemnity of Christ the King on November 23, 2025. It was also the 98th memorial of the death of a Mexican Jesuit Priest Fr. Miguel Pro, S.J. who was killed for his faith on November 23, 1927. Before he was killed, he extended his hands forming a cross and exclaiming, Viva Christo Rey” (long live Christ the King!). In honor of Christ the King, the Phoenixes actively participated with songs of worship and drum sounds in a procession from the Chapel of the Our Lady of the Way through various roads of the campus. We ended up with the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at the Chapel of Our Lady of the Way. As we begin the last month of the year and a new liturgical year (Cycle A), my prayer is that we will all end 2025 with gratitude to God and with openness to welcome God, who is Emmanuel, into our hearts and homes. Best wishes for Christmas.
