Every year, a day is set aside for a group of people who dedicate their lives to preparing the leaders of tomorrow, our teachers. Teachers’ Day is celebrated on the 5th of October. It is a day to celebrate the sacrifices our teachers make while shaping us for the future.
Teaching is not an easy task. It takes resilience, time, dedication, patience and years and years of training. It takes a great heart to care for students, help them have better our grades and prepare them for what the future holds. All these efforts usually go unnoticed. The teachers around you do not only consist of your Mathematics teacher, your Physics teacher, your Commerce teacher, but also the other members of staff who teach you by correcting you when you’re wrong.
Today, we say “Thank you”. Thank you for working overtime to make sure we understand the topics. Thank you for your wisdom and patience. Thank you for turning classrooms into a place of discovery and growth. Thank you for believing in us, even when we doubt ourselves.
I want to use this opportunity to thank a few of my teachers who have made a very big impact in my life: to Mrs. Anastasia Okorocha, who was my form teacher for two years in junior school and fought for us every time, to Mr. Bassey Orji, who consistently teaches me the importance of my heritage and checks on me when I’m down, and to Mrs. Stella Nwagwu who listens to my complaints and helps each student to feel comfortable in JMC, I say a very big THANK YOU!
Teachers are the underrecognized architects in our lives because they build nations and generations one lesson at a time. Though one day is not enough to celebrate what they do in our lives, we celebrate them today with great gratitude and love. So, to all teachers around the world we say:
HAPPY TEACHERS DAY!!!
