I never understood the great magic in the entertainment industry until I worked at Smooth FM, a radio station. Now I understand why I enjoy listening to the radio as I am going to school or the mall or even out with my friends.

As I started my first week I was oriented around the radio station looking at all the studio rooms where they produce music, broadcast live to different radios and where they brainstorm ideas. The first week was an exciting immersion into the world of radio broadcasting. I shadowed experienced radio hosts, witnessing their seamless transitions between songs, engaging conversations, and managing live broadcasts. Learning the importance of timing, scriptwriting, and effective communication was eye-opening. I was amazed at how effortlessly they made every listener feel like a part of the conversation.

In my second week, I began working closely with the station’s tech team. I was introduced to the intricate web of hardware and software that keeps the radio station running smoothly. Learning to troubleshoot technical issues, operate broadcasting equipment, and assist with live broadcasts was both challenging and exhilarating. I gained a newfound appreciation for the behind-the-scenes work that ensures listeners receive a seamless experience.

During the third week, my role expanded to include computer duties. I assisted in maintaining the station’s website, updating social media platforms, and editing audio content. My computer skills were put to the test as I navigated through various software programs used in the radio industry. This experience honed my digital literacy and showed me the importance of the online presence of a radio station.

And on my final week I was able to learn about the social media aspect of Smooth FM where I analyzed its benefits and its doubts. We also had a final question and answers on the past topics we had treated and discussed and I was so happy that I was able to be present during a live show in the On-Air room at the station.

This experience was really good for me as it opened my eyes on what shall come in the future and what I want to pursue in my life. Hopefully, I will be able to pursue it well with the aid of this experience.
