My Internship at Total Energies and my Web Development training was incredibly intriguing.
To begin, I was given a tour of the clinic and the different departments in it. I had gone to the clinic several times but didn’t know my way around, so having a tour of the clinic was quite exciting to me and it was nice to meet all the staff of the clinic who were quite friendly and welcoming. I worked in all the departments of the clinic from the first department, Medical records/Reception wherein patients are received and documented, to the Hospitalisation Department wherein admitted patients are treated and nursed to healing. Carrying out the work was made easier with the two other interns I met at the clinic who helped me find my way around until I was comfortable with the system. It was fun working in the clinic and helping out with activities, I felt like I was an employee working in the clinic.
Additionally, I was educated on the vital signs as a major and first activity done by the patients. This includes a quick assessment that involves observing the physical conditions of the patients. Best medical practice demands that upon arriving a health facility for any form of treatment, vital signs of patients, (blood pressure, height, weight and temperature) be checked to ascertain their health condition and right course of action to take to stabilize and improve their health. Overall, all these help in sorting of patients in order of priority. I also learnt of the treatment room, where minor injuries are given immediate treatment. I was given a tour of the medical laboratories where blood samples, urine, etc. are examined in order to find the disease bedeviling a patient. What is more, I also ran errands such as arranging medications in the dispensary store, delivering of files to doctors, inputting patients’ data into the clinic’s database and collecting patients’ files from the storage room.
The web development programme was quite creative and exhilarating. I was happy to know that I could create the web pages that I use every day with the use of some apps. I was able to write codes to create web pages with the help of my teacher which was a very exciting experience. I made use of HTML and Java Script to recreate some web pages and create simple ones of my own. This programme helped me to develop my technical skills and be able to learn things I didn’t know I could do and create.
In summary both my internship at Total Energies and my Web Programming training were remarkably engaging and educational experiences. I had lots of fun and was able to make new friends with whom I am still in contact long after my internship. I was happy to learn and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to partake in such experiences in the future.
