When I first heard about Jesuit Memorial College (JMC), I had no idea what to expect. As a young boy stepping into JMC, I had no anticipations or preconceived notions about secondary school life.

My first year at JMC started off remarkably well, considering my lack of experience and expectations. After the initial tears and apprehension during orientation, I eagerly embraced my secondary school journey. The teachers at JMC were exceptional, making complex topics easier to grasp. Although initially shy, I gradually gained confidence and formed a close-knit group of friends.

Entering my second year at JMC brought new challenges as I faced new teachers and more demanding topics. I worried that I wouldn’t be able to handle the increased difficulty, but it turned out to be less challenging than I had imagined.

JSS 3 marked my first certificate exam year, where all eyes were on us to make the school proud during the NECO-BECE. Despite the pandemic, our dedicated teachers taught us through online platforms. We returned to school to write our final junior school exams, feeling the pressure of performing well and choosing subjects for senior secondary school. The subject selection process weighed heavily on us as it determined our future career paths. Fortunately, the counseling unit provided valuable support, organizing career programmes and talks that deepened our understanding of various career options and helped us make informed choices based on our strengths.

Finally, the long-awaited moment arrived – senior school. Every junior student dreams of wearing the distinguished green collar, with more pleats or even a stripe on the uniform. However, senior school is much more than that. In SS1, I recognized that this was the beginning of my journey towards the final exams: WASSCE and NECO-SSCE. I had to concentrate diligently during classes to avoid falling behind. The topics became increasingly complex, pushing me to surpass my limits and gain a solid understanding. We also participated in the Citizenship and Leadership Training (CLT), which instilled leadership skills and fostered independence.

SS2 was even better as I became a prefect in school, specifically the Loyola House Male prefect. It was a rewarding experience, allowing me to serve the community. Although it was a challenging year balancing academics, social life, and prefectural duties, I managed to find equilibrium with the help of my fellow prefects.

And then came the final stretch – SS3. Graduation was on my mind from the moment I started this year. I also had to prepare for crucial internal exams like the MOCK-SSCE, as well as external exams like the IGCSE, JAMB, and WASSCE. Our teachers dedicated their efforts to fine-tuning our knowledge from SS1, drilling us to ensure we were fully prepared for the exams.

JMC, as a whole, has shaped my character for the better. I have grown bolder, more confident, and adept at problem-solving. My intellectual competence has flourished, and I have developed a greater capacity for love. Overall, I am a better individual. I will forever be grateful to my parents, teachers, and JMC. Hope Reborn!
