My first Inter-House Sports encounter was incredibly exciting, leaving me somewhat at a loss as to where to commence recounting the events. The atmosphere that day echoed with joy, and the canopies were meticulously arranged for the four Houses of the College: Loyola, Joseph, Teresa and Gonzaga creating a lively atmosphere throughout.

Before the Inter-House Sports proper, it’s customary for us to have the Inter-House Sports heats since all the sports events cannot be displayed on the sports day, so every member of the college community was present to begin as it would mark the 5th Annual Inter-House Sports competition in JMC. On the first day of the Inter-House sports heat, we woke up by 5 am in the hostel and prepared. The day began with the celebration of the Holy Mass with each student kitted in their
coloured sportswear. Afterwards, we went to the dining hall for our sumptuous breakfast, which was pancakes, butter and tea and then took a jog to the field and sat under our respective canopies.

Junior Relay race during Inter-House sports competition
There were so many activities which everyone watched and in which they participated. Even staff and parents weren’t exempted. There was the long jump, high jump, hurdles, relay race, javelin, shot put, fill in the basket, 1500 races, and many fun activities. After each event,
participants were given some glucose to regain our lost energy.
For my part, I took part in the hurdles, high jump, relays and flat races competitions and in the process won four medals comprising of two golds, one silver and one bronze; and even though I didn’t win some, I still shook hands with my competitors, showing good sportsmanship. I fell during hurdles, but I had to continue running and emerged the bronze medalist. One thing I learnt from the Inter-House sports competition is that it was not only about winning medals or being first; it was about enjoying yourself and trying to have a memorable time with your set mates and the rest of the college community.
For fair play and great sportsmanship, students competed at three different levels, namely, Juniors (JS 1 and JS2), Intermediate (JS 3 and SS 1) and Seniors (SS 2 and SS 3). We also had parents relay and match past as well as those of the college staff, academic and non-academic. It was indeed a lovely scene to behold seeing the adults engage in these sports is a memory I would want to keep with me.
Finally, this experience was lovely, fun and enjoyable, and I truly hope I can have this again. I would like to thank the principal and president for this amazing opportunity.
