On my very first day at school, after the first class which was Mathematics, I realized that my academic journey at JMC was not going to be an easy one unless I worked harder. Despite the challenges ahead, I was certain that choosing to attend JMC was the right decision. On that very day, we had up to four Class Exercises (CEs) out of the eight periods. The following week, we had CE sessions in every class, leaving my classmates and I feeling quite overwhelmed. Little did we know that our stress levels were just beginning to climb. Nonetheless, I remained committed to caring for others, embracing the Jesuit value of Cura Personalis.

The third week was going to be the time for our first Continuous Assessment (CA1). I felt a sense of anxiety, especially because we were using smart boards, which added an element of uncertainty to my experience. So I made up my mind that for each question in Mathematics, I would make it a point to ensure that my score sheet reflected a performance of 85% or higher to avoid probation and get to the Honours Roll. On the day of CA1, we tackled six subjects, each lasting one hour. Our first subject was Mathematics, and we were given two minutes for each question. Unfortunately, I froze on the first slide. Nevertheless, I managed to solve the first question, although I couldn’t complete the second one in time. Despite this challenge, I persevered, eventually achieving an impressive 80.0 average. This achievement for me serves as a motivating factor for me to work even harder.

As our papers were returned, my grades consistently ranged from eighty and above. When I showed my score sheet to my seniors, they said that I did well. However, my aim was set higher, and I still aspired to make it onto the Honours Roll.

In conclusion, my continuous assessment experience at JMC was both challenging and rewarding. It has allowed me to understand certain things about Jesuit Memorial College and has also motivated me to strive for excellence. With time, I believe JMC will truly become my home away from home.
