Welcome to Jesuit Memorial College (JMC), Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. JMC is a Catholic co-educational boarding secondary school. Owned and run by the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), it is open to all irrespective of religion, ethnicity, nationality or race. Its vision and mission are founded on the writings of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus. JMC was founded in October 2013 in memory of 60 students of Loyola Jesuit College (LJC), Abuja, Nigeria who died in Sosoliso plane crash of 10 December 2005.

JMC provides a well-rounded education notably in terms of conscience, competence, compassion and commitment. At graduation, we expect our students to be open to growth, intellectually competent, loving, religious and committed to promoting justice.

We admit students into JS 1 only. Prospective students are required to take our entrance examination, which holds every year on the second Saturday of February. They are tested in English Language and Mathematics. The examination is based on the curricula developed by the Nigerian Educational Research and development Council (NERDC) for Basic 4-6. Candidates should be in Primary 6 (Basic/Grade 6) when they are taking the examination and 12 years old by September 1 of the year of admission. Our examination centres are in several cities in Nigeria and abroad. We offer admission to all candidates who meet our admission criteria for the year. Religion, ethnicity, nationality, race and gender are not factors in our admission process.

Education at JMC is of a high standard. The relatively few students who make it through our thorough admission process (we admit about 100 students out of about 1000 candidates every year) experience with all its rigours an education that touches every aspect of their lives: intellectual, moral, religious, physical, and so on.

Our education is demanding not only on the students but also on the staff, management and parents of students. We strive to eliminate or, at least, bring to a minimum anything that is likely to get in the way of the education of any of our students. Eliminating or reducing potentially negative elements in this way means asking everyone involved to make sacrifices, some of which are quite painful but are bearable. For instance, as soon as school resumes, students are not permitted to go home until it is time for holiday: Christmas holiday, Easter holiday and long holiday in July. This means that JMC students participate in out-of-school engagements (visa processes, anniversaries, routine medical care, etc.) during holiday only. The policy guarantees that no student misses any aspect of the holistic education we provide.

If what you want for your child is a world-class secondary education, then you are right to consider JMC. Please click the application link on this page and follow through the application process. If you need help at any point, please call (234) 8090099112 or email with a copy to Good luck!
