Academic Assessment

Academic Assessment

Our academic year is divided into three terms, and each term is subdivided into three regimes. An academic year has 29 teaching weeks, a term has 8-11 teaching weeks and a regime has 2-3 teaching weeks. In a regime, students do class exercises (CEs), an assignment (AS) and a continuous assessment (CA) test in every subject taken. They also do a termly project (PR) for each subject and an end-of-term examination (EXAM). Average scores are computed as follows:

Regime 1 Average (100%) = CE1 (15%) + CE2 (15%) + AS1 (10%) + CA1 (60%)

Regime 2 Average (100%) = CE3 (15%) + CE4 (15%) + AS2 (10%) + CA2 (60%)

Regime 3 Average (100%) = CE5 (15%) + PR (15%) + AS3 (10%) + EXAM (60%)

Terminal Average (100%) = Regime 1 (30%) + Regime 2 (30%) + Regime 3 (40%)

Annual Average (100%) = 1/3 (Term 1) + 1/3 (Term 2) + 1/3 (Term 3)

Our grading key/legend is as shown below:

RANGE (%)                         INTERPRETATION
Average ≥90.00                     Excellent
85.00≤Average<90.00        Very Good
75.00≤Average<85.00         Good
65.00≤Average<75.00         Satisfactory
50.00≤Average<65.00         Probation
Average<50.00                       Failure

Our pass mark is 50.00%, but the least acceptable average score is 65.00%. Students whose regime, terminal or annual averages fall below 65.00% are placed on academic support (in our Academic Support Programme or ASP), where they receive extra guidance from teachers and the Academic Support Counsellor. If the annual average fall below 50.00%, the student is required to repeat the class or be withdrawn from the school.
